The Current Situation:

One of the main problems facing our community and most communities all around Africa is the lack of toilets. In our community there are around 10,000 people sharing just one community unit, which realistically means it is not used. Most people are forced to open defecate on the beach or in the bush which can be a very in private experience for women and young girls.

Project description:

Help construct eco compost toilets for families within our community. As well as helping to improve poor levels of health in the communities concerned, the introduction and use of eco sanitation compost toilets, will generate a high quality fertilizer that will help to enhance crop yields.

Highlights:

We have built 10 family units so far benefiting around 200 people. We now need you to come and join our team and help build for more families! You will be working within a very welcoming rural village and getting to know our community, African life and culture.  Making amazing new friends and forming a close relationship with the family who you are building the compost toilet for.  Working alongside our Ghanaian site manager called Christian from our local village who speaks fantastic English who will teach you a lot of new skills if you are new to building. Start and finish a project leaving a really positive mark on our community. This project is fantastic for a group of friends to work on all the way from fundraising to the construction.

Lukas Lee Testimonial

Building the compost toilets has been an education in the trade of construction but also in getting to know the local culture in its colourful richness! Building a toilet for the family was so rewarding as we have made a massive difference to their lives and their children to come. I want to thank our site manager Christian who has been a great teacher and a great friend. I look forward to returning next year and hope Dream Big continues to blossom!
